Testing, Testing 123: Phlebotomy Basics

When my mother underwent chemotherapy, we spent a lot of time visiting the phlebotomy lab for blood testing. I was always impressed by how easily the phlebotomist was able to find and puncture a vein to draw blood on the first try. I knew there had to be a method to it, and was astounded by how effortless and painless they made the process. It led me to research a lot about blood tests, from drawing to the actual screening. I've created this site to share what I've learned in the hopes of teaching others. The more you understand, the more control you can have over your own health care.

Things You Should Know About Senior Care Residential Care Facilities

by Francisco Arnold

People are living longer lives, and forecasts predict the trend will continue. At some time in their lives, elderly senior citizens will need care in senior care facilities. A popular choice for those seeking senior care facilities is residential care facilities. It takes a little footwork and searching for the right facility, but a relative of friend can help you to find that special senior care residential facility that suits you.

What Is A Residential Care Facility?

You should understand that a residential care facility promotes independence for all residents. You will reside in your own unit and will have your own lock and key to that unit. Only you and the care providers have access to your unit. There is a wide range of programming planned for you that allows you to have a very active social life. Out of the community trips and inside the facility programs make it a lively experience for you. You can go on trips to a public library, go to see a movie or attend a theater play. Transportation can be arranged for you, but you can also use your own vehicle if you'd like to get around town and do other things you are fond of.

What About Your Nutrition?

There's no problem when it comes to satisfying your nutrition needs. Facilities provide hot meals. Of course you can do your own cooking if you want to. Each apartment is equipped with a basic cooking area. So you can feel free to heat up any meals you might have picked up at a restaurant or instead cook yourself a tasty meal. Always bear in mind that your specific needs are taken into consideration. Even though you are an independent resident, there are staff members on duty at all times should you have an emergency situation, Staff will check on you sometimes just to ensure that you are okay and safe.

How Much Do Senior Care Facilities Charge?

Well the cost of paying for residential care in these facilities in America is expensive. Median cost is said to be approximately $3,500 a month. Some people with the means pay for this care facility out of large savings account. You can also spend down a small saving account if you have one and then apply for long-term care from Medicaid. If you've had long-term care insurance for several years, that policy may very well cover your residency charges at residential care facilities. Medicare absolutely does not pay for long-term care in a nursing home or in an assisted living facility.

It takes dedicated planning to find the senior care facility you want to live in. However, talk to your family and friends and share information you have gathered on this matter. They may have other information to share with you as well. Contact a facility, like Americana Senior Care, for more information.
