Testing, Testing 123: Phlebotomy Basics

When my mother underwent chemotherapy, we spent a lot of time visiting the phlebotomy lab for blood testing. I was always impressed by how easily the phlebotomist was able to find and puncture a vein to draw blood on the first try. I knew there had to be a method to it, and was astounded by how effortless and painless they made the process. It led me to research a lot about blood tests, from drawing to the actual screening. I've created this site to share what I've learned in the hopes of teaching others. The more you understand, the more control you can have over your own health care.

The Integral Role Urgent Care Services Play In Quality Medical Care

by Francisco Arnold

When it comes to receiving medical treatment for an acute condition, heading to the emergency room of your local hospital is not always the best solution. If your issue isn't a true emergency, you can end up spending hours waiting in an emergency room while more serious cases are handled first. While you can try contacting your primary care physician's office to schedule a same-day appointment, this is not always possible. If you are out of town, and you need medical care that is not an emergency, an urgent care facility can give you the care you need without having to wait long hours at an emergency department.

Urgent Care Provides a Range of Services

Urgent care can take care of a wide range of needs. From stitches to throat cultures, you can be treated at an urgent care clinic for all types of illness and injuries.

If the facility believes that your medical status warrants being seen at an emergency room instead, you will be sent to the ER instead. You can get X-rays, blood work, and other diagnostic treatment done at an urgent care facility.

Your Primary Care Physician Is Notified

When you visit an urgent care facility for treatment, any records from the visit will be sent along to your primary care physician. This keeps your primary doctor in the loop and allows you to have a complete medical record.

If the urgent care facility feels that you need to be referred to any specialists, this will be done at the time of your appointment. You will get the care you need at the time and you will be given instructions to follow up with your primary care doctor as needed.

Convenient Care When Your Primary Care Isn't Available

If you are nearing the end of a work day for your primary care physician, it is unlikely that you are going to get an appointment that day. When your medical issue can't wait, urgent care services are the answer. You can meet with a physician to get treatment for what is going on without waiting for an appointment to open up with your primary care doctor.

Urgent care services have become integral in how people manage their medical care. It is a great service that is between your primary care physician and needing emergency services at the hospital. This level of care takes care of your basic medical needs without having to wait long. For more information, contact an urgent care service such as 75th St Injury & Illness Center.
