Testing, Testing 123: Phlebotomy Basics

When my mother underwent chemotherapy, we spent a lot of time visiting the phlebotomy lab for blood testing. I was always impressed by how easily the phlebotomist was able to find and puncture a vein to draw blood on the first try. I knew there had to be a method to it, and was astounded by how effortless and painless they made the process. It led me to research a lot about blood tests, from drawing to the actual screening. I've created this site to share what I've learned in the hopes of teaching others. The more you understand, the more control you can have over your own health care.

Top Benefits Of Chiropractic Adjustments

by Francisco Arnold

Living in pain, whether you have a bad back, chronically sore shoulder, or daily neck pain, can take its toll on your life. It is very hard to remain happy and continue with day-to-day activities when you just don't feel well and the pain is constant. You should always consult your primary care physician when you're experiencing pain, but before you begin taking numerous medications or opt for surgery, you may want to consider seeing a chiropractor for chiropractic adjustments. In many cases, chronic pain issues are caused by the joints and muscles being out of alignment, and a chiropractor can help with that. Some of the top benefits of chiropractic adjustments include the following.

Non-Invasive

One of the best things about seeking out chiropractic care to help with pain that you may be experiencing is the fact that chiropractic adjustments are non-invasive. A highly trained chiropractor will learn about your medical history, ask about your symptoms, and then do a physical exam. After the problem area is discovered, your chiropractor will use the right adjustment technique to help the area where you are experiencing pain. There are no needles or scary tools or instruments used, so the entire treatment is completely low-risk and non-invasive.

Avoid Pain Medications

Many patients with chronic pain may start out over the counter pain relief medication, but in many cases, it is not strong enough to take the edge off. Your physician may prescribe something that works better, but with current concerns about the opioid crisis, more and more doctors are hesitant to write prescriptions for narcotic pain medication. Likewise, many people do not want to use narcotic pain medication for chronic pain due to the risk of dependence. Chiropractic care is a great option for people who are looking for relief from their pain without having to turn to long-term pain medication use.

Find the Source of Your Pain

Many conditions, especially pain, tend to be treated by focusing on the symptoms, not the actual source of the problem. This means that from time to time a person may have some relief from pain, but since only the symptoms are being treated, the pain will eventually come back because the actual source of the pain has not been addressed. Chiropractors typically focus on discovering the source of the pain and using specific adjustment techniques to fix the problem. Ensuring that the joints and bones of the body are in proper alignment also positively affects the nerves and muscles, often leading to noticeably less pain because the issue causing the pain has been properly treated.
