About Me

Testing, Testing 123: Phlebotomy Basics

When my mother underwent chemotherapy, we spent a lot of time visiting the phlebotomy lab for blood testing. I was always impressed by how easily the phlebotomist was able to find and puncture a vein to draw blood on the first try. I knew there had to be a method to it, and was astounded by how effortless and painless they made the process. It led me to research a lot about blood tests, from drawing to the actual screening. I've created this site to share what I've learned in the hopes of teaching others. The more you understand, the more control you can have over your own health care.

Levels Of Service Typically Offered By Correctional Healthcare Consulting Agencies

by Francisco Arnold

For those who are held in a correctional facility, healthcare does look different. However, it does need to exist just the same, and in most prison systems, it does. However, due to poor healthcare implementation in correctional facilities, many of these facilities struggle to make sure the programs they have to offer are up to par with state-recommended guidelines. If you are the person in charge of ensuring the facility you oversee is where it should be, it is a good idea to work with a correctional healthcare consulting service who can help. Take a peek at some of the levels of service these companies will provide.

Quality of Care Auditing and Assessments

One of the very first things a correctional healthcare consulting agency will do for your organization is a quality of care audit or assessment. The purpose of this assessment is to see where your facility stands as it is with the current healthcare programs that are in place.

During the assessment, the consulting agency will be looking at things like:

  • What levels of care are offered within the facility
  • Whether you have qualified professionals in place
  • What your levels of care are compared to the standards set forth by the state

Policy and Procedure Development Services

If your correctional facility is found to be lacking, the agency will work with you to implement new policies and procedures. If this means working with outside providers to ensure the healthcare needs are met, the agency will help you achieve that.

In some cases, it is not that programs are lacking, it is that the followthrough procedures are not where they should be. In these situations, the agency will work to help identify points of weakness and make whatever changes are necessary to get the programs where they need to be.

Customized Training for Facility Staff Members

In order for healthcare needs to be met within a correctional facility, the overseeing staff members must also have a certain level of healthcare training. Specifically, those who are in charge of inmate health services must have a certain level of training.

The correctional healthcare consulting service will help you create a customized training plan that will apply to all members of staff who will have to be trained. If this means offering orientation classes or taking short courses, the agency can help you make the necessary arrangements to get everyone properly trained.
