About Me

Testing, Testing 123: Phlebotomy Basics

When my mother underwent chemotherapy, we spent a lot of time visiting the phlebotomy lab for blood testing. I was always impressed by how easily the phlebotomist was able to find and puncture a vein to draw blood on the first try. I knew there had to be a method to it, and was astounded by how effortless and painless they made the process. It led me to research a lot about blood tests, from drawing to the actual screening. I've created this site to share what I've learned in the hopes of teaching others. The more you understand, the more control you can have over your own health care.

A Rhinoplasty Can Make You Happier With Your Appearance

by Francisco Arnold

Having surgery to reshape your nose can be an intimidating thought. However, if you're not happy with the way your nose looks, then you're probably willing to endure surgery to improve your appearance. A rhinoplasty can be done in a number of ways; it all depends on the changes that need to be done to your nose. Here's a look at a rhinoplasty procedure.

Photo Editing Shows Changes In Advance

It's important to have realistic expectations when it comes to changing the shape of your nose. Your surgeon can improve your nose's shape, but they may not necessarily be able to give you a nose that looks like your favorite celebrity's. One way to get an idea of how your new nose will look is through photo editing software. Your doctor may take pictures of your face and then make alterations to the picture that show how your face will look after the surgery. Sometimes, it only takes a slight removal or addition of cartilage to make a big difference in how you'll look, and visualizing these changes helps you understand what the surgery will accomplish.

Several Days Off Are Needed For Recovery

Since the complexity of these operations depends on the amount of work that needs to be done, the recovery time will vary. Your doctor will let you know how long you should take off from work, but it will probably be several days. You may want to schedule the rhinoplasty when school is out if you're a student, or on your vacation if you're working, so you have several days or even a few weeks off for proper recovery.

A Hospital May Not Be Necessary

It's possible that you'll need to stay overnight in the hospital when you have nose surgery, but many times, patients go home the same day. You might have the surgery with local anesthesia and sedation rather than general anesthesia, but in either case, you must be awake and alert before you go home. However, you'll need someone to drive you, and it's best to have someone with you during your initial recovery at home.

The Final Results Come Slowly

Your nose will be bandaged when you leave the hospital or clinic, and you may be excited to see your nose when the bandage is removed. You'll probably notice an immediate difference, but the end result won't be noticeable for a long time. It may take several months for all the swelling to go down and the healing to be complete so the shape of your new nose can be fully appreciated.
